There will be calls to drop several players but this is probably England’s best batting line-up. You might quibble about some in county cricket that deserve a call up but there is no world beater out there.
The problem is this England side are just not improving. It’s the same mistakes – Keaton Jennings’ poor footwork, Joe Root out lbw to an inswinger, Jonny Bairstow getting bowled.
They are so vulnerable any time they come up against a bowling attack with anything about them, just as when they were routed for 58 by New Zealand’s superb duo Tim Southee and Trent Boult.
And this West Indies attack have superb qualities – Kemar Roach and Shannon Gabriel both average under 24 at home, Jason Holder is a very smart, skilled bowler and Alzarri Joseph is a gifted prospect. They were brilliant, England were abject.
